The RO dining chair GM 3706 is designed by Hans Sandgren Jakobsen. The chair is part of the RO series, where chair and table are created with the same sense of proportion, materials and visual calm. The chair is available upholstered in leather and fabric in a range of different qualities.
Designer Hans Sandgren Jakobsen on RO
For me, RO is about creating anatural place for people to be. When I designed the chair, I started with the human body. I wanted the seat to feel inviting at first glance – compact, soft and almost like a small surface that the body naturally settles into. The backrest was important to me. I wanted to create support that follows the body without enclosing it. The curved form creates an open embrace, while the rounded ends provide natural support for the arms. Seen from the side, the chair has a distinct character, while from thef ront it appears calm and welcoming. I have always been interested in the relationship between softness and precision, between the organic and the constructive. In RO, the upholstered upper section meets the solid wooden cross base. The construction is robust, while the slightly angled legs give the chair a light and airy expression.
To pieces of furniture with the same design DNA
The RO table and RO chair share the same design DNA. Not by coincidence, as both are designed by Hans Sandgren Jakobsen. Both the table and the chair explore openness, balanceand simplicity, but at different scales. The table shapes the social space. The chair shapes the individual experience. The table creates space for conversation. The chair creates space for the body. The table brings people together. The chair gives them a place to settle. Both are created with the same respect for proportions, materials and Danish cabinetmaking craftsmanship that characterises the RO series. The series brings together traditional cabinetmaking virtues with a clean, contemporary expression.
RO is built into the form of the chair
RO is built into the chair’s form, proportions and the way it embraces the body. A balance between form, proportions and function. Every detail has its natural place and purpose, while no visible fixings interrupt the elegant lines. RO is created with a simplicity that does not seek attention, but presence. The solid wooden frame adds precision and structure, while the upholstery brings a softness that can be felt the moment you sit down. The chair feels natural to sit in, natural to look at and natural to have around you. RO is therefore not created to fill the room. It is created to belong in it.
RO – the art of materials
RO is available in a carefully selected range of exclusive upholstery fabrics from Kvadrat, Gabriel and Nevotex, as well as NAVER’s own leather qualities: Naver Select, Semi-Aniline and Aniline.
The materials offer the opportunity to create different expressions – from sophisticated and tactile to more natural and organic. Whatever the choice, the material enhances RO’s distinctive form and the way the chair gently embraces the body.
